Summary

I'm really disappointed in these shoes.

Altra Torin 5

The more I run in them, the less I like them. The previous version had a better cushioning, lacing, and the tongue wasn't awful. It's much firmer underfoot. It feels more like a heavy racing shoe than an everyday runner.
The lacing keeps the top section super secure and let's the bottom section remain loose. At first I thought this was a great idea, and I think in other shoes it would be, but loose lacing at the bottom combined with the wide toe box is a bit overkill. And since the top section is so small, it doesn't leave any room for the laces to "settle in" after being tied. I think there are plenty of work around for this, and in and of itself wouldn't knock a star off, but...
The tongue. Is awful. Most reviews I read said as much, but I loved all the other torins so I still wanted to give it a try. It's super thin, but ridged. Which, located at a joint, just means chafing. For the most part, with longer socks, it's not a huge deal. It's a little uncomfortable, but I stop noticing it after I get moving. But if the sock slips down, or you wear shorter socks, watch out. I've had to stop a few times to pull my sock up when the tongue started to cut into me. No good.

Experience

100 miles on this pair.
2 other retired torins (older versions) with 350+ miles on each
Lost track of miles on Altras in general (easily 1000+) and this was the first that I wouldn't give 5 stars.
